Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam municipal authorities removed three statues of famous Telugu film personalities, on Ramakrishna Beach road on Monday night.

It is alleged that the statues of director Dasari Narayana Rao, Dada Saheb Phalke Award winner Akkineni Nageshwara Rao and NT Rama Rao's son Harikrishna, were installed without prior permission from the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC).

Several civil organisations had approached the court expressing their objection over the illegal installation of these three statues. Taking cognizance of their petition, the court ordered the GVMC to remove the statues on the beach road.

These statutes were installed by Telugu Desam Party leader and Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao and former Rajya Sabha member Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad in the first week of December last year.

Amidst tight police bandobust GVMC officials removed the statues at midnight.
