The leader of Opposition in Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly and YSRCP Chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy paid tributes to Babu Jagjivan Ram on the latter's birth anniversary on Friday.

Jagjivan Ram was an activist for the Dalits. He was one of the members of India’s first cabinet and went on to be the longest serving cabinet member in the history of the Indian parliament. April 5 is being renamed as Samatha Diwas or equality day, and his grave has been turned into a memorial and named Samatha Sthal.

YS Jagan took to Twitter to share his tributes. “Remembering Babu Jagjivan Ram on his Jayanthi, a social activist who fought for the welfare and equality of the downtrodden, and brought about representation for them in the Constitution,” he posted on his Twitter handle.
