Rajahmundry Parliamentary Constituency is located in East Godavari and West Godavari districts of Andhra Pradesh. As per the estimates of 2011 census, out of total 19,03,184 population 70.27% is rural and 29.73% is urban population.

As per the voter list of 2018, there are 1351105 electorates and 1511 polling stations in this constituency. Voter turnout in the 2014 Parliamentary election was 81.38% where as it was 80.72% in 2009 Parliamentary Election. The INC, the TDP and the YSRCP got 1.84%, 54.62% and 40.12% votes respectively in 2014-parliamentary election.

Murali Mohan Maganti (TDP) is the present Lok Sabha MP of Rajahmundry Parliamentary Constituency. He defeated his nearest rival B A Choudary of the YSRCP by a margin of 1,67,697 votes. Murali Mohan who had bid adieu to active politics recommended his daughter-in-law Maganti Roopa's name as his replacement to which Chandrababu Naidu agreed.

Roopa will be pitted against YSRCP candidate Margani Bharath who is first-time entrant to politics. Bharath is the son of BC leader Margani Nageshwara Rao who was active in Rajahmundry politics. An MBA from the US, Bharath came back to India to look after his father's businesses and by chance met YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in an event. Impressed with the young man he gave him the post of coordinator of Rajahmundry Parliamentary Constituency and declared him the Rajahmundry MP candidate.

Murali Mohan has a bad progress report in the region and has not been seen in the constituency for quite some time. The TDP also is facing a strong anti-incumbency wave against Maganti Roopa ,who has a tough task ahead of her this time. Jana Sena Party has nominated senior leader and former BJP MLA, Akula Satyanarayana as its candidate. In what could seem as a triangular fight between a senior leader, a lady and a youth, the fight could get interesting this time in Rajahmundry.

Meanwhile, after his entry into the YSRCP, Bharath has worked extensively in Rajahmundry and is all set to land the Rajahmundry LS seat in the YSRCP bag.
