Telangana TDP Backs Out From Lok Sabha Polls

Hyderabad: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has stepped away from contesting in the Telangana Lok Sabha elections. With senior leaders quitting the party and several leaders not showing interest in contesting for the elections, the Telangana TDP has decided not to contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

In the recently held Telangana Assembly elections, Congress-TDP alliance came to the fore. So far, Congress has already announced 17 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana which has made it even more difficult for the TDP to stand alone in the elections.

Previously, TDP had planned to contest Nama Nageswara Rao from Khammam. However, with him resigning from the party and joining the TRS along with TDP not being able to garner enough candidates has pushed the party a little behind.

Also, none of the senior party leaders came forward following the results of the Assembly elections leading to TDP stepping back from the Lok Sabha polls in Telangana.

The TDP has decided to support the Congress in the upcoming polls. TPCC chief Uttam Kumar Reddy also met with TDP leaders on Saturday in this context.

TDP state President L Ramana informed Chandrababu Naidu on the latest developments in Telangana. TDP leaders will meet once again on Sunday to discuss the issue of supporting the Congress.
