The elections in Nellore Urban constituency are drawing the attention of people from all corners. Fighting for the seat, on one hand, is current MLA Dr Anil Kumar Yadav, always on the side of the people and fighting for their justice on the YSR Congress Party ticket. On the other hand, is Urban Development Minister P Narayana, who is using money and power to take on the former. Interestingly, this is the first time, he is entering the ballot war.

Meanwhile, the scope for YSRCP MLA Anil Kumar Yadav is more as he had been instrumental in addressing the issues of the people, and the party also enjoys a good supporting vote bank.

For instance, from 1955 till 2009, five people from the Anam family won the seat five times. Nellore Urban constituency came into existence after the reorganisation in 2009.

Since the beginning, Anil had been focusing on addressing the public issues especially getting a stay on the 1500 houses to be demolished by railway and revenue authorities for new railway lines.

In another instance, he got a stay on the municipal department GO no.279 saving 2000 jobs in the municipal department. Anil fought against Minister Narayana when the latter wanted to pull down houses under the name of canal expansion overnight.

Minister Narayana had started focusing on the constituency since the past four months and he is standing in favour of the ruling party leaders.

It is learnt that the TDP minister is not able to mingle with all the leaders in the party and has never visited a slum in the city. The ruling party had even deleted 50,000 votes in the constituency.

In 1952, Nellore constituency came to existence since then 14 elections have been conducted of which Congress party won 7 times, TDP 2 times, Bharatiya Janasangh, Praja Rajyam Party, and YSRCP once have won the constituency. Anam family holds a good say over the politics of Nellore
