YSRCP Has The Edge In Nellore LS Race

Nellore : Nellore Parliamentary Constituency is located in Prakasam and Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore districts of Andhra Pradesh. It consists of Kavali, Atmakur, Kovur, Udayagiri, Kandukur, Nellore City, Nellore Rural assembly constituencies.

As per the estimates of 2011 census, out of total 20,60,029 population 65.73% is rural and 34.27% is urban. As per the voter list of 2018, there are 13,79,805 voters and 1741 polling stations in this constituency. Voter turnout in the 2014 Parliamentary election was 74.02% where as it was 69.09% in 2009 Parliamentary Election.

The INC, the TDP and the YSRCP got 1.93%, 47.4% and 48.53% votes respectively in 2014- parliamentary election while the BJP, INC and TDP got 1.67%, 42.92% and 37.43% in 2009 parliamentary election respectively. Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy (YSRCP) is the present Lok Sabha MP of Nellore Parliamentary Constituency.

Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy, led the YSRCP to in the 2014 Lok Sabha election with Adala Prabhakara Reddy finishing second when he was with the TDP. Adala Prabhakar Reddy who recently moved from the TDP to YSRCP is the MP Candidate from the Nellore Parliamentary Constituency 2019.

Nellore district which is an agricultural economy also has a thriving handloom and fisheries industry. Once a Congress party stronghold it shifted to the Telugu Desam Party ( TDP ) after the 1980s . But with YS Jagan Mohan Reddy starting the YSR Congress party it has been with the YSRCP since 2012 By polls and in the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections.

Adala Prabhakar Reddy had won in the 1999 general elections from Allur constituency on TDP ticket and worked as a minister for housing. In 2004 and 2009 elections, he won the Sarvepalli seat on Congress ticket.

Nellore district has a coastal line of 169 km covering 12 mandals from Tada to Sullurupeta.There are five revenue divisions in the district - Nellore, Kavali, Gudur, Naidupet and Atmakur.

Nellore district, has been plagued with drought conditions in nearly 33 out of the total 46 mandals in the district. The lack of rains and failure of crops has resulted in rural workers started migrating to urban centres, especially Nellore city, in search of work.

Lack of timely rains has also caused hardships to the farmers in many mandals located nearer to the coastal area like Sullurupeta, Doravarisatram, Vakadu, Chillakuru and others.

Cattle-owning farmers are facing more problems because of shortage of fodder in the villages in upland areas.

The Somasila reservoir in Nellore district has not been receiving required inflows in the past few years leading to acute water shortage in the district.

Creating employment opportunities to the rural poor is also another problem that is not quite happening and the rural workers are migrating in search of a livelihood.

An engineer by profession with an agrarian background Adala Prabhakar Reddy founded APR Constructions and comes with a rich political lineage. He has also served as the Minister for Housing and was the Chairman of AP Assembly Assurances Committee. He will be fighting the Lok Sabha race 2019 against TDP candidate Beeda Mastan Rao.
