BJP MP and former minister Subramanian Swamy filed a case against the Government of Andhra Pradesh for seeking to take under government control the Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam.

He has challenged the provisions of a state law the Andhra Pradesh Charitable and Hindu Religious Institutions and Endowments Act, 1987 by which the administration and control of Hindu religious institutions are taken over by the state government, as ultra vires under the Constitution. Swamy said that under the guise of sanction provided in the law to administer the religious institutions, the Andhra Pradesh government “has virtually usurped the fundamental religious, administrative and cultural rights of Hindu Citizens and denominations. The case was admitted in the AP High Court and listed for final arguments in the first week of April.”

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Swamy said that the TTD was in the hands of the AP government and that it was using the donations for its own benefit . They were not improving basic amenities there and the way the priest and staff were being treated was pathetic , he commented.

Referring to AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu , Swamy said that Chandrababu was jumping around like a monkey in a circus ring. He said that Chandrababu was an ally of the BJP in the NDA government for four years. Despite the financial aid offered, he chose to join hands with the Congress. He said that Chandrababu's claiming that he had joined hands with Congress for Special Category Status for AP was amusing and also questioned as to why he hadn't done the same when he was with the BJP.
