YSRCP Demands Judicial Probe Into Farmer’s Death

Guntur: Demanding a judicial inquiry by a sitting High Court judge into the death of the BC farmer Kotaiah, YSR Congress Party fact-finding committee said that there is undisputable evidence to say that the BC farmer was killed close on the heels of his rejection to allow his land to be used for creating a helipad for the landing of chief minister’s helicopter.

Ummareddy Venkateswarlu, who led the Party fact-finding committee which visited Puttakota and consoled the family members of the deceased farmer Kotaiah, said, ‘ the police has been trying to hush up the issue and the version being given by the police is different and is being distorted as they are trying to shield the main culprits.

The land was taken over by the police for a government programme which was scheduled to be attended by Chandrababu.

The BC farmer Kotaiah who was hail and healthy, suddenly died in the night, which shows that the highhandedness of police is the main reason for the suspicious death of the farmer.

‘Our leader YS Jagan Moahn Reddy has sent the fact-finding team to inquire into the incident and find out reasons behind the death of the farmer belonging to the backward classes. We have consoled the bereaved family members and have extended financial help up to Rs 10 lakhs,’ he said.

The farmer expressed his anguish to the village elders and told them police and TDP members were destroying his field and within one hour he died. While police maintain that he committed suicide by consuming pesticide, it cannot stand any scrutiny.

He has died due to the highhandedness of the police which is beyond doubt and in case of consuming pesticide, the death would not have been so quick. If the government is not responsible why the officials were visiting the house showing money as bait and threatening the family members, he asked. The clothes of the victim were different from those that he was wearing while he was taken away by the police and the government should own up responsibility and order for an inquiry.

The versions of the high police official and Nara Lokesh does not match.

Besides Ummareddy Venkateswarlu, the fact finding committee comprised K Parthasarathi, Mopidevi Venkataramana, Janga Krishna Murthy, Sri Krishnadeva Rayalu and V Rajani, Merugu Nagarjuna.
