Tirupati: YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) legislator Chevireddy Reddy Bhaskar Reddy from Chandragiri, several women and senior district police officials were attacked and injured by local Chittoor Telugu Desam Party (TDP) workers in Vedantapuram Agragagaram in Chandragiri ,in Chittoor district on Sunday.

The MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy who was attending "Pasupu Kumkuma", an official program being conducted at various places of the constituency had reached Vedantapuram village on Saturday night. As he was trying to address the public, TDP party workers came pulled down the tent he had installed, obstructed his speech and attacked the leader. They hurled abuses against the sitting MLA and said that this was a TDP program and he had no right to address the program, disconnected the mike and threw chilli powder at him. Even with the local officials asking them not to misbehave ,they paid no heed. Not only did they attack him, they also tried to attack the women YSRCP cadre and police there. The MLA stood in front of them in a bid to protect them, but the goons started hurling stones, chilli powder and sweet packets at them. They also attacked the police who tried to protect them.

In the process the MLA, Tirupati West Zone DSP, MRpalli CI and three women were injured in the attack. In the scuffle that ensued between the MLA and the TDP leaders, the YSRCP leader suffocated and fainted there. The Police quickly swung into action and lathi-charged the errant workers and quickly shifted the unconscious MLA to the SVRR Hospital in Tirupati. The MLA was treated for severe breathlessness and blood pressure by the doctors there.

YSRCP Chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy immediately enquired about the MLA's health and also called him up on the phone and spoke to him. He assured the MLA of all help and said that the Party was with him and that he should continue his good work and services to the people.

YSRCP State Chief Secretary Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, Bhumana Karunakara Reddy, Chittoor Constituency YSRCP Convenor J Srinivasulu came and enquired about Chevireddy's health. The MLA's aides and supporters also thronged the hospital and raised slogans against the ruling TDP's autocratic behaviour.
