YS Sharmila Complaint: Cyber Crime Cops Send More Notices

Hyderabad: The Cyber Crime Division of the Hyderabad City Police has speeded up its investigation into the complaint lodged by YS Sharmila, daughter of former chief minister of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy, and sister of Leader of the Opposition in AP, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy against those who were behind a vicious campaign of slander against her on social media. Police authorities sent notices to five people earlier and to three more individuals on Thursday. The specially constituted team probing the case has got down to tracking the offenders behind this character assassination campaign, by securing their technical details.

YS Sharmila, in her complaint, had given 60 YouTube links and based on these links, the Cyber crime police are now seeking to identify the owners of these channels and proceeding against them. Fifteen individuals were summoned for questioning till Thursday after it was established that they had posted or shared objectionable content.

Eight individuals have been identified as the accused in this case so far and have been sent notices under Section 41 (A) of Cr.PC. Once charge sheets are filed, the accused will be required to present themselves before the court. The culprits behind this slander campaign will have to be identified based on those who first created and uploaded the objectionable content on YouTube.

The Cyber crime division of the Hyderabad City police has already written to the managements of YouTube and Google in this regard. The police are also in the process of identifying subscribers who made objectionable comments on these videos and are in the process of verifying their IDs and log-in details.
