YS Jagan Attack Case

Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday issued a notice to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the case on the attack on YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) Chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

In the previous hearing in the case, YS Jagan's advocate argued that the case should be transferred to the NIA, adhering to the NIA Act. It was also argued that there was a chance for evidence tampering if the probe into the case was delayed.

It may be recalled that YS Jagan was attacked with a sharp knife on 25 October, 2018 by a restaurant worker, Srinivasa Rao, inside the VIP lounge of Visakhapatnam airport. Except for the State government, the Centre and all political parties across the country were suspicious about a potential conspiracy behind the attack.

Right from minutes from the attack, CM Chandrababu Naidu, DGP RP Thakur, and TDP leaders tried to deviate the case with their statements while playing down the murder attempt. With this, the YSRCP approached the High Court demanding a fair and transparent probe by a national agency on the matter. Following the Home Ministry's orders, the Hyderabad NIA division filed an FIR on the matter. Mohammed Sajid Khan was appointed as the Chief Investigation Officer.
