YS Jagan Lauds Farmers’ Contribution To Building Nation

Tekkali, Srikakulam: On Farmer's Day, YSRCP Chief and Leader of Opposition in Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly took to Twitter to pay rich tributes to former Prime Minister of India Charan Singh  and the Farmers of India.

"Remembering former PM Chaudhary Charan Singh Ji on his birth anniversary. A big salute to the millions of unsung heroes - our farmers, the 'backbone of our nation'. Your contribution in building the nation is indispensable and immeasurable," wrote the YSRCP president.

National Farmers Day or Kisan Diwas is celebrated in the honor of Chaudhary Charan Singh the fifth Prime Minister of India. Charan Singh was born on December 23 and this day is observed as Farmers Day in India.

Though he served the country as Prime Minister for a very short period ( 28th of July 1979 till 14th January 1980), he  had framed many policies to improve the life of Indian farmers.

Chaudhary Charan Singh had brought all the farmers together under the famous slogan  -‘Jai Jawan Jai Kisan’ . He had also written extensively on the life and problems of farmers in India as he himself  belonged to a farmer’s family.
