YSR Congress Party Chief and AP leader of Opposition YS Jagan Mohan Reddy was attacked with a sharp object by a waiter when the former was waiting at the airport lounge in Visakhapatnam.

Eye witness and YSRCP leader who was accompanying YS Jagan, Majji Srinivas Rao said that there was no security at the airport lounge. YS Jagan suffered an injury on his left shoulder following the attack. According to reports coming in, the waiter came to the YSRCP president on the pretext of taking a selfie when he launched an unexpected attack. YS Jagan was given first aid immediately after which he left for Hyderabad.

YSRCP MLA Roja said that when someone of the stature of Leader of Opposition could be attacked openly in a public place such as an airport which is a highly secure area, one could well imagine the fate of common citizens in Andhra Pradesh. This knife attack was clearly aimed at the YSRCP chief's life and that it was a planned one.

An eyewitness said that YS Jagan escaped a major attack only because he turned just in time.

It is being suspected that the knife was laced with poisonous substance. The police took the waiter Srinivas into custody. Incidentally, it was pointed out that the canteen is run by a contractor Harshavardhan, who tried for the Telugu Desam ticket for Gajuwaka constituency.

The YSRCP is demanding that the conspirators behind this heinous attack be brought to book. Roja also said that this is yet another case of the failure of ruling party.

It has emerged that the waiter Srinivas, who attacked YS Jagan is reportedly close to Harshavardhan, the contractor.
