Amaravati: It appears that Telugu Desam party MPs are gripped by a fear of facing elections. The ruling party MPs seem to be caught between the devil and the deep sea.

The principal reason behind this fear and uncertainty is the growing popularity of YSR Congress party and its president and Leader of Opposition in Andhra Pradesh legislative assembly, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, on the one hand, and conversely the declining stock of their own party. It is learnt that many close associates of a host of ruling party MPs have been conveying negative feedback from the ground level to them, intensifying their fears.

The MPs are feeling the impact of public wrath against non-fulfillment of promises. On important issues like Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh, the TDP's response is seen as a tepid reaction to the heat generated by YSR Congress party and its leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, on the issue. Chandrababu's frequent U-turns on the subject have made things even more difficult for the MPs to face the electorate.

TDP MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao is already said to have conveyed his reluctance to stand this time around, while a question hangs over the candidature of the controversial TDP Anantapur MP JC Diwakar Reddy. The party appears to be singed by a growing sense of panic among many MPs across the state. Similarly, it is said that this time around the Srikakulam MP Kinjarapu Ramamohan Rao is not very keen on contesting for the Lok Sabha and hence, his uncle AP minister Atchanna Naidu's name is doing the rounds.
