Amaravati: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Executive member Ramesh Naidu predicted Telugu Desam Party's (TDP) crushing defeat, if the local body elections were to be held now.
Speaking to media here today, Ramesh Naidu said that the BJP completely opposes Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu's decision pertaining to the Panchayat Raj elections in the state. In the name of reservations, the ruling party has undemocratically called for the postponement of elections, he remarked.
The BJP leader accused the TDP government of delaying Panchayat polls in fear of losing badly. With the implementation of special officers in the local bodies, rural public will face severe problems, he said. "Development in Panchayats will be stalled if special officers are given powers," Ramesh Naidu added.
Village sarpanches have to be empowered with voting rights in the MLC elections, he demanded on behalf of the BJP. Chandrababu is trying to misuse the powers of local bodies, he asserted.
