New Delhi: YSR Congress Party has intensified its protest against the Central government demanding Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh. The former YSRCP MPs, YV Subba Reddy, Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy, Vara Prasad and Midhun Reddy along with Rajya Sabha MPs Vijayasai Reddy and Vemireddi Prabhakar Reddy, senior leaders Bosta Satyanarayana and Ummareddi Venkateswarulu held placards and protested at the Gandhi statue near Parliament today.

Speaking on the occasion, former YSRCP MP Vara Parasad said AP lost out in every way because of the TDP's negligent attitude. Though an ally of BJP for the last four years, TDP did not pressurise the BJP-led government to award SCS to AP. Only after YSRCP MPs resigned, BJP understood the gravity of the issue, he said. He remarked if only TDP MPs had also resigned their posts along with YSRCP MPs, Centre would have yielded to the demands of Andhra Pradesh.

Vara Prasad said that it was unfortunate that TDP was involved in double standards and compromised people's welfare for their personal benefits. Though the AP Reorganisation ACT had mentioned that within six months a decision should be taken in regards to establishing Kadapa steel plant, but TDP sat on it for four years, he pointed out. He said AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu became the CM for the first time by stabbing TDP founder NTR in the back, and the second time he rode the Vajpayee wave and became the CM. Later, Chandrababu criticised BJP, but again joined hands with BJP in 2014. This is the political philosophy of the AP CM and such are his ethics, he said.

He further said that over four years, Chandrababu had misused the funds that were allocated to the state under Special Package. The TDP Chief did not miss out any opportunity to indulge in corruption, so much so that Chandrababu used even religious functions to make money. He said it was Congress party which had cheated the state, and now the AP CM was trying to forge an alliance with them. He said that the issue of SCS to AP was alive only because of the relentless fight waged by YSRCP President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
