Amaravati: Former MP Vadde Sobhanadreshwara Rao expressed his anguish over Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu not questioning the centre in respect to Special Category Status (SCS) to state. He said 14th Finance Commission had never said no SCS to AP. Despite Chandrababu being aware of this issue he accepted Special Package which was the biggest mistake, he observed.

The former MP said that the AP CM was silent when central government allotted Rs 2500 crores for building Amaravati under special package scheme. Why didn't Chandrababu ask for more funds to build the capital, he questioned. The TDP government should have pressurised the centre to release separate funds for the development of backward districts in the same way that the central government released funds for Bundelkhand and Bolangi, he said.

Vadde said that the state government was lethargic about establishing Dugarajapatnam port. As soon as the central government made it clear that it was not possible to build Dugarajupatnam port due to technical reasons, the state government should have approached them for alternative Ramayapatnam port. "If only the TDP government had demanded for Ramayapatnam port, by this time the works would have started at the expense of Rs 24,000 crores."

He said that Chandrababu was repeating the earlier mistake while building the state. All the development was centred around Amaravati while ignoring the other regions, he remarked. He demanded to know why projects started earlier were not taken up and completed. It was unfortunate that the state government was mortgaging projects for getting loans from the banks. Highlighting the defective policies of Chandrababu government he had written a book titled "Nela Vidichi Samu Cheyatam Taguna...", which would be released on July 22, he added.
