Andhra CM, Governor greet people on Bhogi and Sankranti

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy today greeted people on the occasion of Bhogi and Sankranti.

In a message in Hyderabad, Reddy said the festival of Sankranti brings cheer to farmers as the farm produce is ready after harvesting.

On the occasion of the festival, Reddy said, fine rice worth Rs 25 will be given to white-card holders for only Rs 1 from January 16 under `Mana Biyyam' (our rice) scheme.

Also, one kg each of dal, wheat, wheat flour, salt, half a kilo sugar and tamarind, 250 gm mirchi powder, 100 gm turmeric power and one liter palm oil will be supplied to all the 2.3 crore white-card holders in the state from  coming `Ugadi' (Telugu New year day).

Governor ESL Narasimhan also conveyed his greeting to the people. He said in his message that Sankranti celebrations represent the best in our ancient and glorious tradition.

Bhogi, the first day of Sankranti celebration, was celebrated with religious fervour across the state today. People lit bonfires of agricultural and household waste to mark Bhogi.
