Amaravati to get Science City

Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government began the process for a ‘science city’ at Amaravati on Thursday.

The Centre will bear 60 percent and state government 40 percent of the cost for project for setting up the science city.

The state government’s project is designed on the lines of ‘science city’ in Kolkata, the largest Science Centre in India.

Generally, the science city is sanctioned to cities with a local populace of over 50 lakh which has the potential of attracting 10 lakh visitors annually.

Despite Amaravati lacking in the populace criteria, Centre approved for the project. Under AP Societies Registration Act 2001 it will be registered as an autonomous body, while the chairman of the society will be chief minister Chandrababu Naidu.
