Lucknow: Amar Singh, who was expelled from the Samajwadi Party four years ago, shared the stage with party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav at an event in Lucknow on Tuesday, signaling a rapprochement between both the leaders.

However, Amar Singh's bete noire Azam Khan was conspicuous by his absence indicating that Amar Singh's possible entry could spur dissent within the party.

Amar Singh, an old friend of Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, who was expelled from party four years ago, has been keeping a low profile of late. Was it a planned reunion of old comrades after bitter political feud? Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akilesh Yadav was also a party of the reunion.

Amar Singh, 58, Rajya Sabha MP was sacked from Samajwadi Party on charges of anti-party activities along with actor-politico Jaya Prada in February 2010.

Muluayam invited Amar Singh for inauguration of a park in Lucknow, named after socialist leader and former minister Janeshwar Mishra.

Amar Singh was one of Yadav's most-trusted aides; after his expulsion, he launched a new political party which failed miserably in 2012 State election. Later, he joined Ajit Singh's Rashtriya Lok Dal but lost again in the recently-concluded election.

Speculations are in rife that Mulyam Singh is trying to woo Amar Singh back into the SP to strengthen the party ahead of upcoming assembly elections. There are also reports that Mulayam wants to keep distance from Azam Khan who failed to swung Muslim votes in recently concluded elections.
