In a move towards ensuring women's safety, the Andhra Pradesh government on Monday decided to set up one all-woman police station in every district of the state.
It was decided to open two to four women police stations in the state capital, besides one or two such stations in cities like Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Kurnool, Guntur, Warangal and Tirupati.

The decisions were taken during a meeting of the State-Level High Power Vigilance and Monitoring Committee on SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, which was chaired by Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and attended by ministers and officials concerned. Reddy directed that people should be educated about respecting women, against atrocities on them, superstitions that often lead to attacks on women and others in rural areas.
To promote awareness on respecting women and other issues among children, a campaign will be undertaken at the school-level by conducting events like essay writing and elocution. Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment P Balram Naik, several state ministers, MLAs and top officials including DGP V Dinesh Reddy also attended the meeting, an official release said.
The Chief Minister directed officials to expedite the SC/ST atrocities cases and ensure conviction. The state government will write to the High Court to fill up posts of judges in special courts set up under the Act, it said. Reddy said all posts of public prosecutors will be filled up soon and priority will be given to SCs and STs in the matter, the release added.
