Adulteration Of Milk And Milk Products In Full Swing In Old City

Hyderabad: Adulteration of milk and milk products in full swing in several parts of old city of Hyderabad.

Following complaints by residents of the old city, West Zone police conducted raids at several such "manufacturing" units and seized hundreds of liters of adulterated milk. They also arrested one person, Ali, involved in the preparation of the adulterated milk. Explaining the modus operandi, police said, the accused used to mix hundreds of liters of water,milk powder, a few liters of milk and several chemicals to obtain a rich white colour and thickness of milk. They used to then sell the "prepared" milk at local markets and also supply to sweet shops, police said.

Pahedi Sharif and Kattedan were the prime centers for preparation of such milk. The accused used to select mechanical sheds, abandoned oil mills and other isolated places to set up the “manufacturing” units.

Earlier, these places were used to prepare adulterated masala powders such as turmeric powder, pepper and chilli powders. Some of the ingredients used by them include brick powder and powdered metal rust. After preparation, the powder was packed in one kilogram packets and supplied to markets in Kurnool, Anantapur, Bidar and Gulbarga. These units were eliminated with regular raids, police said and added that the accused have now focused on milk and milk products.
