Actress Manjula dies

South Indian actress Manjula Vijayakumar (59) passed away in Chennai on Tuesday. She died of illness, it is learnt

She debuted as a child artiste in the year 1969 with Shanthi Nilaya in Tamil. She became popular in Telugu after her role in Venkatesh's 'Chanti'. Manjula was also seen in Venky's 'Vasu'. One of her daughters, Sri Devi is also a South Indian actress.She is survived by her husband Vijayakumar and three daughters.

Manjula has acted in more than 100 films in South Indian languages like Tamil, Telugu and Kannada.

Manjula has performed with renowned actors of yesteryears— Sivaji Ganesan, Gemini Ganesan, M. G. Ramachandran, Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Shobhan Babu, Kamal Hassan, Vishnuvardhan and Rajinikanth.

Soon as news of Manjula's death broke, her colleagues from the film fraternity took to social media to offer their homage. Condolences have been pouring in for the departed soul on micro-blogging sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
