In a key development, Tamil hero Ajith met Jayalalithaa's close associate Sasikala Natarajan on Monday evening. Jayalalithaa treated Ajith like a son and Ajith too respected her. The meeting assumed significance as Sasikala is trying to rally her supporters to lay claim to party's top post.

Sources say this meet was part of Sasikala's efforts to garner support and they added that the meeting took place at the Poes Garden. However, Ajith has not so far confirmed the meeting.

Ajith has always been considered a heir to Jayalalithaa’s political legacy by a section of the party. He was among the first to rush to the hospital after she was hospitalised on Septemer 22. On the day of her death too, he was among the first to offer tributes to Puratchi Thalaivi on Marina Beach.

Ajith broke his shooting in Bulgaria and came to Chennai to celebrate Christmas. During his stay, he reportedly met Sasikala Natarajan.

The meeting assumes significance as opposition is growing for Sasikala's possible ascension to the top post after Jayalalithaa's demise.

In party strongholds like Tiruvallur, a section has come out strongly against Sasikala being considered for the top post. Though party district level leadership have passed resolutions in favour of Sasikala, the lower level cadre and the grassroots workers are voicing their dissatisfaction.
