Action Or Inaction? Revanth’s Episode May Expose Chandrababu’s Political Duplicity

Hyderabad: The former T-TDP working president A. Revanth Reddy's resignation from the party and Assembly seems to have pushed AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu into a Catch-22 situation. As the national president of TDP, Chandrababu is supposed to forward Revanth's resignation to the Speaker of the Telangana Legislative Assembly and ask him to strip him of his party affiliation.

But the TDP president's task is not going to be as simple as forwarding it for acceptance and disaffiliation; by handing over his resignation from the Telangana State Assembly to Chandrababu, Revanth has put him in a real fix. If Chandrababu forwards Revanth's resignation to the TS Assembly Speaker seeking due action, he will be asked about the AP Speaker's inaction on YSR Congress Party's defectors.

Also, many of TDP's MLAs had also defected to TRS earlier and no action was sought against them. They are continuing as MLAs in TRS though they were elected on TDP tickets. And Chandrababu cannot keep mum on the issue either, as it would prove that he is not strong enough to take action against an MLA who has openly raised the banner of revolt against the party and is joining hands with a rival political outfit-- the Congress. Revanth is all set to join the Congress on October 31 in the presence of Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi and he is raring to go for a by-election from the Kodangal Assembly constituency.

The situation seems to be a challenging one for Chandrababu on more counts than one-- he can't ask the Telangana Speaker to remove Revanth from the party seat in the Assembly as he will have to make his stand clear on other MLAs who left his party and joined TRS in Telangana. To compound the matter further, he himself had invited 21 MLAs and two MPs from YSRCP who were not stripped of their Assembly membership, into his party.

Chandrababu Naidu seems to be caught in a bind now and his action or inaction in Revanth Reddy's case, will expose the true colors of the TDP supremo.
