Hyderabad: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) vandalized the Narayana Junior College premises on Thursday accusing the dean of sexually harassing a teacher who committed suicide. The student organization also called for a bandh of Narayana colleges across Telangana on Friday.

Activists forced their way into the institute's premises at Narayanaguda and demanded action against dean Jayasimha Reddy, who has denied the charges.

They alleged that the dean harassed a teacher of the institute about two years ago, which eventually led to her suicide. "This is not the only case. We have received several complaints against the dean from women employees of the institute," said Sadineni Rajashekhar, the ABVP state secretary adding that in a 40-minute audio clip, which went viral on social media, a teacher of the institute is heard accusing the dean of sexual harassment.

After the college refused to take immediate action without any probe, the students broke tables, smashed window panes and tore the photographs of the dean in his office. Soon as the news broke, a huge crowd gathered outside the college while policemen rushed to the spot and detained the protesters.

"We took six ABVP activists into custody from the spot at 5pm on Thursday. We have filed a case against them under Indian Penal code Section 452 (House-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 427 (Mischief causing damage), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt)," said B. Ravindar, Inspector of Narayanaguda police station. Following the incident, the Narayana Institute constituted an internal committee to probe the allegations.

"We have never received any complaints against the dean from the women staff as alleged by the ABVP members today," said Rambabu, deputy general manager of the institute.

"The incident is unrelated to the institute and students should be allowed to study peacefully," he added.

"We don't want to create any unnecessary trouble in colleges. But we demand action against people who are misusing their rights in the education sector," said Aiyappa, an ABVP leader.

Meanwhile, the BC Students Association demanded removal of Narayana Educational Institutions chairman P. Narayana from the AP cabinet and also Ganta Srinivasa Rao from the ministry of education as dozens of students from their colleges had committed suicide in the recent past.
