Aadhaar card not mandatory to write SSC exam

Hyderabad: In a huge relief for school managements and parents, the state education department has announcement that Aadhaar card is not mandatory for writing SSC examination.

The State education department on Monday issued a notification stating that the compulsion of acquiring Aadhaar card for writing class 10 examination is cancelled. The department said that it earlier acted upon the directives given by the Center. The notification said 'The Government of India's ministry of communication and IT, department of electronics and IT has sought Aadhaar details of all children in the age group of 5 to 17 years.' Following this, the school education department has established 10 UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) centers in each district, exclusively for students.'

On November 28 the State Education Department, announced that it was compulsory to have Aadhaar card for the SSC examination and it asked the school management to list out the students name along with their Aadhaar card number and to submit before December 2.

This move has put the school management under inconvenient situation as almost six lakh students would be writing exams out of which 1.5 lakh students don't have Aadhaar card number.

This drew flak from the school management who expressed that it was not possible to issue Aadhar card for such massive number of students in short period of time. While the parents also expressed their plight stating that Supreme Court itself has ruled out that Aadhaar card is not a mandatory document.
