Chittoor: A class nine student committed suicide on Saturday in Madanapalle of Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh, fearing that his teachers might punish him if he attended school without doing homework.
The deceased, Venugopal (14), had not been going to school for two weeks. He was one of the three children of Narsimhulu, Pushpalatha couple. The three children - two daughters and a son - go to a school in Madanapalle while the couple work at Chintamani in Karnataka. Venugopal told his sisters that if he went to school, teachers would punish him as he did not do homework.
On Saturday his two sisters went to school after leaving their brother at home. In the afternoon, they returned only to find Venugopal hanging from the ceiling fan. The girls alerted the neighbours who declared that he had died. Police registered a case and are investigating.
