Hyderabad: More and more stories of the woes of Indian workers in Gulf countries continue to come light by the day; in yet another instance of exploitation, 500 Indian workers in Bahrain have not been paid for months.

Nearly 500 laborers through social media appealed to the Indian government for help saying that for past few months they have not been paid salaries and are living on food handouts. They are employed with a Bahraini private company.

The matter was taken up by the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Thursday, who directed the Indian Embassy in Manama to look into the matter.

“The matter has been taken up with the local Govt. Mission is working for a speedy resolution to the issue," Indian embassy officials replied to Sushma's tweet.

In a separate incident, Telangana government reached out to union minister for help seeking to free 29 Indian workers employed in a company in Saudi Arabia. The minister has ordered the Indian embassy in Riyadh to look into the case. It may be recalled that, last year in July, Sushma had helped nearly 800 Indian workers who had been starving because of lack of money and resources in Saudi Arabia.
