450 New MBBS Seats in Telangana 

Hyderabad: The Supreme Court-Mandated Oversight Committee on Medical Council of India (SCMOCMCI) gave a second chance to three colleges to start intake of 150 students each for MBBS seats for the academic year 2016-17, making the existing 1,900 seats go up to 2,350 in private medical colleges.

The increased number of seats will benefit medical aspirants who have better chances of getting seats in convenor quota in Eamcet-3 and management quota in NEET-2

The three colleges are: RVM Medical college in Medak, Mahavir Institute of Medical Sciences in Ranga Reddy and Maheshwara Medical College in Patancheru.

It may be recalled that these colleges application were rejected by Medical Council of India’s (MCI) on grounds of lacking manpower and not having proper infrastructure facilities, but in the latest order Supreme Court-Mandated Oversight Committee gave a nod to these three colleges with a condition.

It said that after September 30 the colleges will be inspected to look into whether the deficiencies listed out by MCI have been addressed. However, the move has been condemned by experts saying that medicos will suffer if these colleges were to be blacklisted later for two years.

“At the most, the SCMOCMCI should have appointed another inspection team to find out if these new applicants addressed all deficiencies or not before giving them a second chance,” said Dr K Ramesh Reddy , MCI member.
