4 held in Medipally gang-rape case

Four persons were arrested today for allegedly gang-raping a 21-year-old married woman in a forest area in neighbouring Ranga Reddy district of Telangana, police said.

However, the fifth accused involved in the incident, that took place yesterday, is absconding, they said. The incident took place yesterday when the woman, along with her husband, was going to Bhongir town, when a group of five persons allegedly pulled her into an auto-rickshaw and took her to Narapally forest where they gang-raped her, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Malkajgiri division) Ch Chennaiah said. The accused also robbed her husband of Rs 3,000 and his cell phone, he said.

The accused are identified as Immu alias Akram, Abbas, Juber, and Shah Nawaz, all auto-drivers, Chennaiah said, adding that another accused Ravi is still at large.

During the course of investigation, police had located the auto in which the accused were travelling and based on a credible information apprehended them at Uppal auto-stand and brought them to Medipalli police station, the ACP said. Police had already registered a case under relevant sections of IPC in connection with the incident
