3000 Free WiFi Hotspots to be set up in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Towards making Hyderabad a Global City and to facilitate better co-ordination between various departments in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Telangana State government is planning to set up 3,000 free WiFi hotspots across the city.

Already 200 centers have been set up in the city at bus stands, parks and government offices and the officials are planning to extend the free WiFi service to a minimum 3,000 centers in total in GHMC limits as part of 100-Days Plan of Action. The decision has been taken at an interdepartmental co-ordination meeting held at Buddha Purnima project on Saturday. GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy, HMDA Commissioner T Chiranjeevulu, Hyderabad district Collector Rahul Bojja, Rangareddy district Collector M Raghunandan Rao, Secunderabad Cantonment CEO Sujatha Gupta and Traffic DCP LS Chowhan have participated in the meeting.

The meeting opined that the idea to set up 3,000 Wi-Fi hotspots in the city would help the departments to coordinate on the works of Musi rejuvenation project, double bedroom houses and other flagship programmes of the Telangana government. The officials stated that 21,000 users were benefited through the 200 free WiFi centers with 17,000 hours of service so far.

The government would also create a convergence portal in this regard. The software process is also being completed and it will be launched soon, GHMC Commissioner said. He asked HMDA Commissioner and Rangareddy Collector in the meeting to furnish the list of government lands available for the Musi project.

He also said that the construction of houses under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) has been completed and beneficiaries were identified. He instructed officials to handover the houses to the beneficiaries at the earliest.
