24-hour call centres to file complaints in AP from April

Andhra Pradesh Police will in April start round-the-clock call centres wherein a complaint can be lodged from any part of the state by dialling 100. Currently, only Hyderabad and Cyberabad Police Commissionerates here have dial 100 system.

The new facility, which will commence operations from April 11, will enable a person in distress to dial the toll- free emergency number from anywhere in the state to lodge complaints, officials said. The calls will first reach a central centre being set up at the state police headquarters here and the complaints once lodged will be recorded and action on them monitored.

The central hub will alert sub-call centres in districts and the complaint contents would be immediately transferred to officials concerned. Mobile patrolling teams of the relevant police station will also be alerted. Inspectors will deputed to visit the police stations under their jurisdiction to review the progress on complaints. The call centre at DGP office will be headed by an SP- level rank officer while sub-call centres will be supervised by DSP-rank officers, Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy said after holding a meeting via video-conference with senior officers yesterday.

Initially, calls will be received only from landline phones and the system will be later upgraded to register complaints from cellphones also, Reddy added.
