21% Hyderabadis Suffer From Hypertension: Study

Despite having high prevalence of hypertension Hyderabad fares better than Mumbai and Kolkata

Hyderabad: A study by the ministry of health and family welfare says that 21 percent of people in Hyderabad suffer from hypertension and 16 percent have cardio-vascular problems.

The findings are part of the National White Paper 'NCD Management' (non-communicable diseases) which was released at the 4th national summit held in Delhi.

However, in terms of cardiovascular diseases Hyderabad had figure of 16 percent, while 19.5 percent adults were affected in Mumbai, 7.8 percent in Kolkata

Despite having high prevalence of hypertension Hyderabad fares better than Mumbai and Kolkata. In Mumbai 36 percent and Kolkata 30.5 percent of adults suffer from hypertension.

However, in terms of cardiovascular diseases Hyderabad had figure of 16 percent, while 19.5 percent adults were affected in Mumbai, 7.8 percent in Kolkata.

Coming to the respiratory disorders Hyderabad stands at 5.9 percent, while 10 percent were affected in Mumbai and 7.4 percent in Kolkata.

The white paper was drafted with the support of Population Services International (PSI).

The paper recommends NCD checkup camps focusing on diabetes and hypertension in public health facilities to be carried out on regular basis among others.
