2 Women Held For Carrying 2.36kg Gold Bars In Undergarments At Hyderabad Airport

Hyderabad: Two women were arrested for smuggling gold worth Rs71 lakh at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Thursday.

Based on specific intelligence, the officers of the Custom's Air Intelligence Unit seized 2,000gm of gold from one woman and 366gm from another passenger who arrived from Jeddah by a Saudi airlines flight on Thursday.

The security officials noticed the two women moving suspiciously in the airport. The officials intercepted the women and sent them for questioning. During the process they said that they were not carrying any material with them but when they were subjected to a metal detector, they confessed to carrying gold bars in their undergarments. The first woman had gold bars weighing two kg worth Rs 60 lakh and the second woman 366 grams of gold worth Rs 10.98 lakh.

"The value of the gold bars seized from the two passengers is Rs 60 lakh and Rs 10.98 lakh respectively," a senior Customs officer said.

Police took the two women into custody and sent them for remand.
