Hyderabad: Hemapriya, a two-month-old baby, died a day after she was given a vaccine by a nurse at a government hospital in Medchal on Wednesday.

“My daughter fell sick after she was given the pentavelant vaccine and was found dead with bleeding from her nose,” said father P. Konda Reddy.

Medchal inspector K. Ganesh has registered a case under section 304-A (negligence causing death) of the IPC and are trying to ascertain facts as what caused the child to die.

“We will proceed only after we get details of autopsy report,” said Ganesh.

District medical and health officer of Medchal Dr Bhanu Prakash said that one in one lakh children reports an untoward event and it could be because the child had an underlying disorder which was not diagnosed, adding, 36 infants were administered vaccine the same day and none has come up with any complaint

Baby’s mother Harshitha said that she returned home after getting vaccination from Health Sub Centre II near the MRO Office. She said that the baby started crying and was sweating profusely and thought that this might be due bitterness of vaccination.

The baby stopped crying after she fed her milk and baby fell asleep. Around 3.30 am when Harshitha woke up she found blood coming from baby's nose and altered her family only to be found baby dead.

The parents hail from Mahbubnagar and Harshitha came to her parents' village for delivery in Sathupally, Medchal.
