Pune: In a brutal act, two engineering students were bludgeoned to death on Monday. Their bodies were recovered near INS Shivaji in Lonavala.
Police said that the unidentified assailants attacked the girl and her male friend. The victims were stripped, their hands were tied behind their back and a blunt object was used to smash their heads. The students were of Sinhgad Engineering College on the Lonavala campus, who were in their final year.
"We are probing the matter and the suspects identities are yet to be ascertained. The bodies have been sent for autopsy," said inspector Chandrakant Jadhav. A case under section 302 (punishment for murder) of IPC has been registerd.
The 22-year-old youth from Rahuri in Ahmednagar district was pursuing mechanical engineering, while 21-year-old girl was a computer engineering student.
From the murder spot, Aadhaar cards and driving licenses of the victims were found and police have also recovered a motorcycle.
