Hyderabad: The Kukatpally area in the city woke up on Saturday to the tragic news of a degree girl, Soumya, being killed and thrown into the IDL lake.

The 19-year-old girl was killed by her cousin and cab driver Krishnaiah before dumping her body into the lake. He surrendered before the police and told the officials that he took her to Chintal forest area and strangled her to death. He then packed her body in a gunny sack, brought it on a bike to the lake before dumping it.

Police said that Soumya was a first year degree student of a private college in IDPL and was engaged to the accused Krishnaiah. However, he grew suspicious about Soumya that she is close to another college-mate. After the murder, he went striaght to the police station and surrendered.

Police have begun operations to fishout the body from the lake. They have also brought Krishnaiah to the lake site to identify the crime spot. Further details are awaited.

Soumya Was a Divorcee?

Some relatives of Soumya stated that she was married about two years. She was pursuing her intermediate education at that time. However, she did not like the marriage and did not go to her in-laws house. The divorce was obtained only recently, they said.

Meanwhile, Soumya’s mother was inconsolable when she saw her daughter’s body fished out from the IDL lake. Relatives were unable to fathom what forced Krishnaiah to kill the innocent girl.
