Bhopal: In what could be another chilling stalking related incident, a college girl who was going home for Diwali was dragged out of the bus she was travelling in and stabbed multiple times by a stalker, leading to her death.

The incident occurred in Madhya Pradesh’s Siddhi District in full view of other passengers.

18-year-old Sanju Singh of a Rewa college was on her way home on Friday evening in Sidhi’s Kusumi area for Diwali when she was attacked by 23-year-old Shivendra Singh Parihar.

Passengers had intervened initially when Shivendra Singh began to trouble the girl and made him sit towards the rear end of the bus. But he soon came back with a can of petrol and threatened to set the bus on fire with everyone in it.

He even stabbed the bus conductor who tried to come to the rescue of the girl. Shivendra Singh then dragged the girl out of the bus and stabbed her multiple times before fleeing from the scene. Sanju Singh collapsed there and died on the spot.

The passengers alerted the authorities who were too late to save the victim. The police have booked a case under the IPC, besides provisions of Arms Act and Atrocities against SC/ST Act and have launche a search operation to nab Shivendra.

They are investigating to establish if this was a case of stalking or one of spurned love.

The murder triggered protests in the market till Saturday evening. Residents blocked the road, while tribals gathered outside Sidhi district hospital, claiming the girl’s autopsy was done without the family’s consent. They sat down in protest, demanding the arrest of the accused.
