Visakhapatnam: Komali, 18-month-old girl died in Gajuwaka for failing to get timely medical treatment after the hospital refused to accept the demonetized notes.

Komali suffering from fever was being treated at King George Hospital. However, her parents took her to private hospital as the fever didn't subside. The hospital informed the parents to get medical tests done to confirm viral fever but refused to accept the old notes. As the hapless parents were unable to adjust new currency they returned back home and after few hours the girl died.

“We came to know that the family had old currency notes. But the hospital authorities did not accept them. They returned home without the tests. The watchman's neighbors collected lower denomination notes to help the hapless man. But the money was just sufficient for the medical tests. They returned home on Friday night as they did not have money to buy medicines. The girl died a few hours later,” G Kiran Kumar, a neighbor told Times of India.

Infant's mother Lakshmi Sarada rued that her child could have survived had the hospital accepted the old notes. Komali's father Adari Ganesh is a watchman at Kakatiya ITI in Gajuwaka.

Similar instance was witnessed few days back in Palasa, Srikakulam. Due to demonetization of notes, three children who stay in Hyderabad couldn’t see their father for the last time and were unable to perform the last rites who died on last Friday.
