11,700 Government Employees To Be Sacked For Furnishing Fake Caste Certificates 

Mumbai: About 11,700 government employees are expected to be sacked by the state government for furnishing fake caste certificates to get employment.

The state government is struggling to fire the employees who forged certificates to get government jobs. The government move follows an order by the Supreme Court to sack employees who got jobs posing as tribals and providing fake caste certificates. It is now facing the task of implementing the SC order while preparing for the wrath of the employees who have completed over 20 years of service. Some of those employees joined the service as clerks and rose in position over time. Another issue that the government is bracing up for is the support these employees enjoy from trade unions and politicians. The state advocate general and the law department have told the government that the SC order was unambiguous about dismissing the employees.

During a meeting on January 20, state chief secretary Sumit Mullick said they are also preparing for the massive retrenchment of employees, subsequent legal action and recovery of earnings while the employees were in service.
