11 YSRCP MLAs resign over Telangana

Protesting against the attitude of Congress party on the bifurcation of state, 11 members of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly from YSR Congress Party on Thursday announced their resignations to MLA posts.

The 11 YSRCP MLAs demanded that the Congress should first spell out its stand on the Telangana issue and then call for consultations.

The MLAs who resigned include Ananthapur MLA B.Gurunath Reddy, Ongole MLA Balineni Srinivas Reddy, Allagadda MLA Sobha Nagi Reddy, Udayagiri MLA Mekapati Chandrasekhar Reddy, Kovvur MLA Nallapuneni Prasanna Kumar Reddy, Rajampet MLA Amarnath Reddy,Rayachoty MLA Srikanth Reddy, Tirupati MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy and Macherla MLA Pinelli Ramakrishna Reddy, Railway Koduru MLA Srinivasulu and others.

The 11 YSRCP MLAs announced that they submitted their resignations to the legislature in the Speaker’s format. The MLAs alleged that the ruling party was playing with the future of the people.

Stating that the Congress party has created a chaos in the state, they demanded that the time was now ripe for the party to declare its stand on the contentious issue. "Congress party is only thinking of its votes and seats. The Congress suddenly raked up the Telangana issue to fulfill its selfish motives. It is only playing politics over Telangana issue ," they observed.

It is learnt that the MLAs faxed their resignations to Speaker Nadendla Manohar.

They demanded that the Centre take into account everyone's wish in the state before making a decision.  Many feel that their resignations will mount pressure on the central government to keep the state united. More MLAs from YSRCP are likely to resign over the same issue, it is learnt.
