15 Killed, 20 Injured As Lorry Runs Amok In Chittoor
Chittoor: 15 people were killed on the spot and another 20 were injured when a lorry ran amok and hit an electric pole before running over pedestrians here on Friday.
The injured were shifted to Ruia hospital in Tirupati town. The condition of 10 of the injured is said to be critical. The incident took place on the Putalapattu-Naidupeta road when the driver of the lorry lost control of the vehicle. Following the accident, traffic movement on the Yerpedu, Srikalahasti, Renigunta and Tirupati routes was affected.
Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock and grief at the loss of lives in the tragic accident in Yerpedu. He directed the district Collector to personally supervise the relief operations. Meanwhile, tense situation is prevailing near Ruia hospital as relatives of the victims are thronging the hospital and demanding action against the driver.
