3 Kashmiri Students Booked For Not Standing During National Anthem In Hyderabad Theater

Hyderabad: Three students hailing from Jammu and Kashmir were booked for allegedly not standing up while the national anthem was played before the screening of the movie on Saturday. The trio Jameel Gul, Omar Faiz and Mudabir Shabbir reside in Toli Chowki and are pursuing engineering course in a college at Chevella.

On Saturday afternoon, the trio went to Cine Mantra theater at Attapur to watch a Hindi film Bareilly Ki Barfi and they didn’t stand up when the national anthem was played. The matter came to light after the management of the theater lodged a complaint with police. A senior police officer is also believed to be present in the theater and he prompted the management to lodge a case with the police.

DCP PV Padmaja said a case under relevant sections of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act of 1971 against the trio was registered. After the complaint, the police went to their residence suspecting any anti-national links. The police questioned the students for hours before they were let off.
